WASHINGTON, D.C. The Science Coalition's Communications Director, Daniel Jacobs, issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget proposal:

“The President’s FY27 budget once again proposes significant cuts to federal scientific research at a time when our global competitors are increasing their investments in science and technology. These reductions will slow the ability of university researchers to make groundbreaking discoveries, weaken our innovation ecosystem, and undermine U.S. leadership in emerging fields like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, advanced energy, and biotechnology.

“Cuts to agencies such as the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation would also force the cancellation of promising projects and close workforce development and training opportunities for talented young researchers.

“We urge Congress to come together in a bipartisan fashion and reject the President’s proposed reductions to fundamental scientific research funding. Let’s maintain our nation’s longstanding commitment to robust and sustained basic research that fuels medical breakthroughs, strengthens national security, sparks economic growth, and trains the next generation of scientists, engineers, technologists, and business leaders.”
