WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Science Coalition President Jacob Dowd issued the following statement today after Congress approved six FY 2026 appropriations bills:
“By passing eleven out of twelve appropriations bills for the 2026 Fiscal Year, Congress took an important step forward to fund federal science agencies and research programs that support basic scientific research at colleges and universities across the United States.
“Federal investments in scientific research aren’t abstract. They directly strengthen our national security, drive medical and public health breakthroughs, advance agricultural production, bolster the long‑term economy, and prepare the next generation of scientists, engineers, and problem‑solvers.
“As Congress turns to FY 2027, there’s strong bipartisan backing for fundamental research at America’s colleges and universities. Sustained federal funding for basic science will keep the United States at the forefront of discovery and innovation in the years ahead.”
