WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Science Coalition proudly announced the appointment of Jake Dowd, Director of Federal Relations at Washington State University (WSU), as its new president for 2026.
Jake brings nearly two decades of experience in higher education and federal advocacy to the role, positioning him to guide TSC in its mission to champion robust federal funding for basic scientific research. He previously served in a leadership role on TSC’s Board of Directors.
“Scientific research and discovery drive our nation’s economic prosperity, national security, and technological leadership,” said Dowd. ”I look forward to working with higher education institutions across America’s research enterprise to make the case for strong and sustained federal investments in basic science.”
At WSU, Dowd leads the university’s Washington, D.C. office and guides strategic efforts to advance WSU’s federal partnerships and legislative priorities.
“Jake’s wealth of policy expertise and deep relationships in the higher education community will help expand TSC’s reach and impact, amplifying the voices of our member institutions across the nation.” said Abigail Robbins, TSC’s 2025 President and Assistant Director, Federal Relations at Northeastern University. “Working closely together, we’ll continue to demonstrate how federal investment in scientific research creates jobs, propels critical technologies, and secures America's competitive edge.”
