Award Highlights Senator Fischer’s Commitment to Advancing America’s Agricultural and Technological Leadership
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Science Coalition announced U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) as a 2025 Champion of Science, highlighting her support for advancing agricultural innovation in Nebraska.
The signature award applauds members of Congress whose actions and votes reflect a strong and consistent commitment to federally funded scientific research at American colleges and universities.
Senator Fischer was nominated for the award by the University of Nebraska, a prominent TSC member. Throughout her career, the Senator has sponsored and co-sponsored key scientific research and technology legislation, including the Building Blocks of STEM Act, the Advancing IoT for Precision Agriculture Act, and other initiatives that support research on drought and water management.
“We are deeply grateful for Senator Fischer’s steadfast support of federally funded research at the University of Nebraska and across the country,” said NU President Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. “Her advocacy for agricultural research is helping to advance projects of national significance—including the new USDA-ARS National Center for Resilient and Regenerative Precision Agriculture, which is currently under construction on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Innovation Campus. Her work to advance agricultural research, transportation safety, and science education has directly benefited Cornhusker researchers, students, and communities.”
“I am honored to receive this recognition and thank the University of Nebraska for the nomination,” said Senator Deb Fischer. “As a proud Nebraskan, I am committed to supporting policies that strengthen our state’s economy through agricultural innovation and research. As a member of key committees shaping science policy, I will continue to champion solutions that improve health outcomes for Nebraskans, strengthen our national security, and fuel the rural economy.”
“Senator Fischer’s leadership in supporting robust federal funding for agricultural research is essential to the development of our nation’s security and the continued economic prosperity of Nebraska and the United States,” said Abigail Robbins, President of The Science Coalition. “As we enter a new age of American innovation, we celebrate leaders like Senator Fischer who champion research partnerships between federal agencies and universities and help drive the future of scientific discovery. We are proud to call Senator Fischer a Champion of Science.”
For over 30 years, TSC has recognized more than 100 members of Congress as Champions of Science for their commitment to federal funding for fundamental scientific research. Each champion is selected based on their voting records, bill sponsorships, letters of support, and other activities that further scientific discovery and innovation.
