WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Science Coalition's Communications Director, Daniel Jacobs, issued the following statement in response to the House Appropriations Committee’s proposed FY 2026 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill:

“The proposed House appropriations bill slashes critical funding for basic scientific research by nearly a quarter, jeopardizing our nation’s scientific might and weakening our industry-leading technological innovation.”

“This shortsighted funding outlay will undermine America’s leadership and dominance on the world stage. It will also adversely affect the first-rate research enterprise anchored by our country’s colleges and universities.”

“Strong and sustained federal investments in science strengthen our economy, improve health outcomes for Americans, and give us a strategic edge against competitors, like China. We can ill afford these cuts."
