The Science Coalition Statement on the President’s Proposed FY 2026 Budget
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Science Coalition’s Communications Director, Daniel Jacobs, issued the following statement in response to the president’s FY 2026 budget proposal:
“These proposed steep cuts to federal scientific research efforts will hamper America’s ability to lead the world in science and technology.
“Our health and well-being, economic might, and military capabilities depend on robust and sustained federal investments in basic scientific research – much of it conducted at colleges and universities across the country. Our nation’s higher education research institutions also deploy federal scientific research funding to train and equip a highly talented workforce pipeline that helps the private sector thrive and unlocks new breakthroughs in health, medicine, technology, and many other critical fields of study.
“Without strong and sustained federal investments in science, our economy will lose a vital source of power, the pace of lifesaving medical breakthroughs will slow, our defense technologies will stagnate, and our nation will fall behind its competitors.”
