WASHINGTON – The Science Coalition (TSC) today released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted to pass the America Creating Opportunities for Manufacturing, Pre-Eminence in Technology, and Economic Strength (America COMPETES) Act of 2022:

“We are encouraged to see the House of Representatives affirm the importance of U.S. science and technology to our country’s global competitiveness by passing the America COMPETES Act of 2022. This milestone legislation would protect fundamental research already underway at the Department of Energy, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the National Science Foundation and, if the final competitiveness package is passed, would provide additional funding to seed groundbreaking discoveries across the research enterprise. Our nation’s leadership role in the global research ecosystem is due to consistent, robust federal investment in science, which Congress must continue to prioritize. As our international competitors ramp up their own research capabilities, we urge both the House and Senate to agree to and fund a final competitiveness package that fuels economic growth and secures the U.S. innovation pipeline.”
