WASHINGTON – The Science Coalition (TSC) released the following statement in response to the President’s budget request for fiscal year (FY) 2019:

“Despite the recent agreement to alleviate federal spending constraints, the White House today released an FY 2019 budget request that fails to adequately fund the federal agencies that support vital fundamental science research. The Science Coalition urges Congress to use the flexibility created by the recent budget deal to increase funding for scientific research in FY 2019. Federal funding for scientific research is essential to a strong economy and for the U.S. to remain a leader in innovation. It is imperative that Congress and the Administration continue to prioritize federal funding for fundamental research in the coming fiscal year.

“While the Administration’s budget proposal would not sufficiently grow key research agencies, the recent bipartisan budget deal presents an opportunity to return federal science funding to an upward trajectory. TSC looks forward to Congress working through the FY 2019 budget and appropriations process to bolster our country’s scientific research enterprise for the benefit of all Americans.”
